    Back to Albisola

Updated forms went to Albisola: the protruding parts are now more integrated, as the first connections were too filigree for porcelain. The piece is for Oltremare at the Museo Diocesano, Genoa, in November.

  5. Quote
    On the big biennales

“If there is a thing I hate it is these big art biennales. There is something about them: in their programmatic notes, to begin with, they say ‘we are all under capitalism, we are part of exploitation, Eurocentric, racist, blah blah blah.’ And then they go on, and the way Kassel and Venice function are perfect examples of pure capitalist commercialization of art. I know that stance, because I have it. It is the obsessional neurotic stance. You talk all the time, not to achieve something, but to make it true that nothing will happen.”

Slavoj Žižek, 2023, talk with the Institute of Art and Ideas, video

  6. Now
    Venice

Back from La Biennale with something like Paris Syndrome.

Seen from the fringes, current tendencies in art show signs of paralysis; a kind of cryo slumber, hibernating at a crossroads. One cannot escape the sense that much of the work that made the cut is Pflichterfüllung, eagerly seeking validation from the established gatekeepers of the art world.

Engaged practice may have to look for its engagement elsewhere: anywhere but the global art circus.
